Happy New Year!

A new year brings the opportunity to recommit to the future we want to create. And there’s no better way to embrace the spirit of the new year than by asking tomorrow’s leaders—our children—to imagine the world they want to see. With that in mind, Ritu and I are delighted to announce the second annual World Bank Group Children’s Art Prize, in collaboration with our Art Program and Family Network.

Last year’s contest was an extraordinary success, with over 700 entries from more than 70 countries. The artworks have been displayed in the Washington, D.C., office atrium, and in the President’s office, all year. Hundreds of visitors, including many dignitaries and world leaders, have spent a lot of time admiring the complex and engaging visions presented in these works. The World Bank Group also featured these artworks in a coffee table book, which has been given to leaders around the world.

This year, we are excited to continue the tradition of the Art Prize with a new theme: "Building a Better World."

Contest end on March 7, 2025

This theme encourages participants to present their artistic vision and interpret what goes into building a better world. We would like the artworks to reflect the interconnections between the building blocks for a better world—such as food, education, energy, jobs, healthcare, housing, community, clean water, and clean air. As you can imagine, all of these things create healthy children, happy families, and strong communities. They are also central to our shared vision of a world free of poverty on a livable planet.

Key details for participation:

  • Submissions can include drawings, paintings, graffiti, photography, or digital art.
  • The work must be the participant’s own original work, without adult or collaborative input.
  • The deadline for entries has been extended to Friday  March 7, 2025

Click here for detailed information on how to enter and the contest rules.

All submissions will be displayed in a special exhibition during the 2025 Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C. Winning pieces will be featured in the 2025 World Bank Group Children’s Art Book, shared with heads of state, business leaders, and officials worldwide. Age group winners will also have their art displayed in Ajay’s office—a wonderful recognition of their creativity.

We encourage everyone in the World Bank Group family to invite their children to participate. Through this contest, their visions of the future will bind our community together with the universal language of art and remind us of the limitless potential for building a better world.

Here’s to a year of creativity, collaboration, and meaningful progress.
