From the Presidents' desk—November 2025

WBFN Presidents

Dear WBFN Members,

Warm greetings from Washington, D.C.!

Welcome to a new month filled with promise and possibility, a time to give thanks for the blessings that enrich our lives and to look ahead with hearts open to generosity, compassion, and the power of community to shape a brighter future. This season gently calls us to action: to strengthen our connections, uplift those around us, and make a lasting impact through kindness and collaboration. Through shared meals, thoughtful gestures, and cherished traditions, we find joy in togetherness and celebrate the bonds that sustain us.

Whether we are volunteering, writing a note of gratitude, or simply gathering with loved ones, November reminds us to embrace the warmth of unity and belonging at every level of our community. As we reflect on the year’s journey with its challenges, achievements, and moments of growth, we recognize that every act of giving, every shared tradition, and every gesture of gratitude strengthen the bonds that unite us and light the path toward a more hopeful tomorrow.

Across the globe, WBFN members are leading the way. In Islamabad, Pakistan, your swift response to support a middle school at risk of closure ensured that students could continue learning in a safe and nurturing environment. This is just one example of the transformative work happening wherever our network reaches. Your dedication and initiative are the heartbeat of our mission—advancing the World Bank Group’s vision of ending extreme poverty and fostering shared prosperity on a livable planet.

Let’s build on this momentum. We invite you to share your stories of community engagement at your duty station by writing to us at familynetwork@worldbank.org. Your experiences inspire others and help us learn, connect, and grow together.

Here in Washington, D.C., the Book Project stands as a testament to what we can achieve together. By joining forces, WBG staff and WBFN members are bridging educational gaps worldwide, sending vital schoolbooks to classrooms where resources are scarce and hope is needed most. This month’s newsletter will spotlight the Book Project’s impact and offer practical ways for you to get involved, whether by donating books or requesting shipments for schools in need at your location.

Another pillar of our community is the Margaret McNamara Education Grant (MMEG), founded by WBFN to empower women from developing countries to pursue education and drive change. Thanks to your support, MMEG has awarded 590 grants to women from 79 countries, distributing over $5 million. This November, the annual “MMEG Market” fundraiser returns to the MC building from November 10th to 12th. If you are looking for that timeless gift perfect for the holiday season, the MMEG Market is the place to visit. The best part is that you’ll be making a difference while supporting a truly transformative cause. If you’re in D.C. or visiting, we encourage you to join us and be part of this inspiring movement.

Thank you for your passion, your generosity, and your commitment to making a difference. Together, we are shaping a future defined by opportunity, hope, and shared purpose.

With appreciation and optimism,
Joel and Milka
