Vienna - March Global Connect Newsletter - Mila Borukhova, Connector for WBFN Vienna

Mila

Hi, I’m Mila, the Local Coordinator of the WBFN Austria Chapter. I care deeply about creating spaces where people feel welcome, seen, and connected, especially in moments of transition. After living abroad in four countries for 21 years, I understand how living abroad can feel isolating, and my goal has always been to make sure that no one in our community feels they have to navigate Vienna alone. I understood how important it is to be in a community wherever you go and that’s what drives me to volunteer and build our chapter.

At the heart of our growing and vibrant chapter are our volunteers.
WBFN Austria has expanded and become active thanks to members who generously give their precious time, energy, and talents to help connect our community and bring people together through shared interests.

Our interest groups are where friendships grow through shared passions:

•    Foodies Group, led by Elaine Tinsley, where members explore Vienna’s rich and diverse food scene together.
•    Book Club, guided by our intellectual and thoughtful Maribel Jimeno, bringing curious minds together for meaningful
     conversations.
•    Nestroy Men’s Group, a men-only space led by Guilherme Zagatti, fostering connection and camaraderie.
•    Photo Club, led by Marta Ferrer Luback, for photography enthusiasts discovering Vienna through new lenses.
•    Yoga Club, guided by our professional health guru Oyuna T. Finch, creating moments of balance and well-being.
•    Ball Group, led by our amazing waltz king David Schuman, helping members confidently step into one of Vienna’s most beloved traditions.
•    Padel Club, led by Lucas Kornexl, connecting members through sport and fun competition.

Beyond our interest groups, we make a conscious effort to vary our monthly activities so that everyone feels included - spouses, staff and children. We organize weekend museum visits where the whole family can participate, as well as monthly restaurant outings designed to bring staff and non-staff together in a relaxed, social setting.

Bridging generations is equally important to us. We actively work to create connections between WBG retirees and those currently working by including the 1818 Society members in Vienna in several of our events. These intergenerational moments enrich our community, allowing experience, stories, and perspectives to be shared.

Looking ahead, we are especially proud to be expanding our reach to the younger generation. In the summer of 2026, we will pilot our very own WBFN Teen Summer Program, designed to engage teens, build skills, and strengthen their connection to the WBG community in Vienna.

At its core, WBFN Austria is about belonging across roles, ages, and life stages and growing together as a community.

Warmly,
Mila Borukhova, your Local Connector for WBFN Austria
