What is CPR? CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It's a rescue and basic life-support technique for someone whose heart or breathing has stopped. It's also an organized approach for assessing and handling this type of medical emergency. When the heart stops beating or breathing stops, the first few minutes are critical in saving a life or preventing severe, permanent damage. CPR can keep a person alive until an ambulance and medical treatment is available.

HSD offers CPR for Family and Friends (a non-certified class) available to Bank/Fund staff and spouses. Learn vital lifesaving techniques in this intensive course. Included in the program are a comprehensive lecture, demonstrations of one-rescuer CPR, anti-choking techniques, and hands-on practice. You will receive an American Heart Association participation card. If you need to certify, the instructor will be contacted prior to class to make specific arrangements. Classes are scheduled several times throughout the year by the Health Promotion Office.
