We often complain that teens are laid back and easygoing, that they do not prioritize and never get anything done properly. The general consensus is that teens need not only direction, but they also need motivation and support. However, Eduardo and Luciana feel that teen years are the crucial period when nothing is impossible and everything is within their reach. By featuring this newly begun group, FLY, we not only acknowledge that our Bank Teens want to contribute positively to the society and enrich their living environments, but we also wish to support them and offer encouragement to other teens to join this wonderful group.
FLY—Future Leading Youth
Future Leading Youth (F.L.Y) is a group of 15 to 19 year old teenagers whose parents work on the World Bank, IDB or IMF. The group was created as a result of the World Bank’s Teen Summer Program that was held this July. Towards the end of the summer program, some of the participants decided to continue the newly formed friendships with some kind of meaningful activity, so, with help from the IDB family association and dedicated teens, FLY was created.
FLY is a group created by teens for teens. Some of our main objectives are helping the community by doing community service. We also want to help teenagers in transition, we want teens who are moving to DC have fun activities every month, and also meet the new members and get to know people with similar interests.
We recently had a pizza party, which was the first meeting of many to come, and we had over 20 people showing up. We are all very excited about this project and I hope more teens join this group after reading this write-up.

FLY—A community to help Teens
Future Leading Youth (FYL) is a group founded by the IDB Family Association for teenagers (15-19) whose parents work at the IDB, World Bank, or IMF. Fun activities as well as community service projects have been planned throughout the year. This group forms a community to help make the experience of living in the United States more enjoyable. Meeting new people from different parts of the world from completely different cultures is an eye-opening experience. Not only do teens have fun, but they also learn and form friendships that could last a lifetime. We encourage everyone to come out and join FLY. Even though we are in the school year and workloads are getting heavier FLY, is a great way to relax and have fun on the weekends while helping our communities and our members adapt to the American way of life.
